Who We Are
Singularity is built by experienced power systems and software experts from Harvard, MIT, and Johns Hopkins.
Singularity’s platform provides high-quality, time and location-based grid emissions data, and a suite of innovative products such as developer APIs, and intelligent tools for grid operators, utilities, companies, and service providers to build data-driven decarbonization solutions.
Singularity is a winner of the Harvard Physical Science & Engineering Accelerator, the Greentown Labs Bold Idea Challenge in partnership with Schneider Electric, the National Science Foundation Small Business Innovation Research Award, EPRI Incubatenergy Challenge, and a URBAN-X company.
Our Story
Meet the team behind Singularity.
Our Team
Wenbo Shi
CEO/Founder
Before founding Singularity, Wenbo was a postdoctoral researcher at Harvard University researching Smart Grid technology and management, where he published more than 20 peer-reviewed papers which received over 1,000 citations. Two of his journal papers were ranked among the most popular articles on IEEE. He received his PhD from UCLA in 2015.
Jeff Burka
Staff Software Engineer
Jeff leads the software development at Singularity. He was a full-stack engineer at Bevi, where he worked on product and infrastructure as the company experienced a 10x increase in customers. He has been delivering enterprise software since 2015, and graduated from Johns Hopkins University with a degree in Computer Science.
Karl Breustedt
Senior Director of Business Development & Operations
Prior to joining Singularity, Karl was a Senior Associate Consultant at Bain & Company, where he worked as an experienced advisor on strategy, operations, and commercial excellence across industrial and financial services clients. He graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in finance.
Gailin Pease
Senior Data Scientist
Gailin has a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from MIT, where she focused on systems engineering. Before joining Singularity, she completed a Master’s degree in Earth Sciences at Dartmouth College, where she worked on novel approaches for using complex and noisy data to understand the processes shaping our planet.
Benjamin Rouillé d'Orfeuil
Data Scientist
Prior to Singularity, Ben worked at Breakthrough Energy where he developed a simulation platform that can be used to run scenarios to better understand a path to a clean energy transition on the US electric gird. Ben holds a PhD in Physics from Université Paris Cité. During his time in academia he worked on High Energy Astrophysics and Observational Cosmology research.
Greg Miller
Research & Policy Lead
Greg earned his PhD in Energy Systems from UC Davis, where he used data science and applied power systems principles to improve the tracking of power sector emissions and understand the impacts of energy procurement and management strategies. His professional background is in corporate sustainability and carbon accounting.
Xin Chen
Research Scientist
Xin received his Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from Harvard University. He is an expert in electric power system control and operation, and has published 10+ first-author papers in top academic journals and conferences. He received IEEE CDC Outstanding Student Paper Award, CCTA Best Student Paper Award Finalist, and the Best Conference Paper Award in IEEE PES General Meeting.
Ryan Baker
Engineering Lead
Prior to Singularity, Ryan worked as a manager and lead engineer for various enterprise software startups. Most notably, he worked across the technical stack at Drift and Front to help both companies build, scale and sell high impact products to their customers. He has been building enterprise software since 2014 and got his B.S. in Computer Science from Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
Paul Dixon
Product Lead
Paul is a twenty year technology industry veteran, and has delivered a wide range of B2C and B2C applications in his career, with an emphasis on two-sided consumer marketplaces and the optimization of complex systems. He received his PhD in Biological Oceanography from the Scripps Institution of Oceanography in 1999, where he studied population dynamics and time series analysis.
